Simpson Tyler, Betty's Bay

The original house was a victim of the recent fire in Betty’s Bay. Although my clients were devastated, it gave them an opportunity to create something that would respond to the natural elements around them. Using the original foot print of the house, they ultimately sought to maximize the best view from all rooms as well as the best light into each room.

The gabled roof had to be maintained for title deed reasons, but having done so, does provide the house with a unique look as the 2 end roofs can be seen as book ends that hold the internal flying roofs.

There was great consideration in the use of natural materials which provide the house with a very warm feel with the large use of glass as seen in the fenestration.
